Measure your setup
Water use depends on supply, hose, connectors, control setting, and toy resistance. Universal gallons-per-hour claims are unreliable unless conditions are disclosed. Measure at the same connection and setting you plan to use, with children away from the test.
- Use a container with a known volume.
- Time the fill and repeat at least three times.
- Record the hose, control position, and connectors.
- Report repeated results or a range.
Calculate the estimate
Gallons per minute = container gallons × 60 ÷ fill seconds. If one gallon fills in 20 seconds, flow is about 3 gallons per minute. At unchanged flow, 30 minutes would use about 90 gallons. Starting and stopping, pressure changes, error, and toy restriction affect the total.
Know what is certified
EPA’s WaterSense program provides a broader efficiency framework, but outdoor water toys are not presented as a WaterSense-labeled category. Splash.toys will not imply that they are certified.
