Measurements worth recording

Measure floor-to-rim height, basin depth, farthest reach, and the footprint at the widest legs. Compare those with the intended user and location.

• Check whether every side is usable.
• Inventory removable pieces and small-parts warnings.
• Confirm the drain is reachable without lifting a full basin.
• Measure storage space before assembly.

Map the farthest activity

A center tower, upper tray, or activity mounted on the opposite rim can turn a comfortable rim height into an awkward reach. Identify every feature children are expected to operate, then check whether it can be reached with feet on the ground and without using the basin edge for body support.

• Measure from each usable side to the farthest feature.
• Account for the basin wall and water depth, not only tabletop width.
• Notice whether accessories invite children to crowd one side.
• Do not treat climbing onto a stool as a fit solution.

Leave room for the stance

The footprint measurement should include the outermost legs plus standing room. A table advertised for play on several sides needs clear access on those sides; placing it against a wall can change reach and concentrate children in a smaller area.

• Mark the leg footprint before assembly.
• Add room for a normal stance and adult access.
• Keep the table away from steps, traffic routes, and hard projections.
• Use the intended surface and stability guidance from the manufacturer.

Check the ownership fit

Locate the drain, fill point, accessory storage, and seasonal storage area before choosing a table. The right play height does not compensate for a drain you cannot reach or an assembled footprint that blocks routine movement.
